At the beginning of any journey we all have to make the same decision. That is to make that leap and actually start. I have recently finally made that leap and decided to take a deeper commitment and begin my journey into learning IOS development.

What does starting a new journey mean?

Begin with the end in mind. What is the why? When starting a new journey there has to be a purpose behind it. There has to be that main reason that motivated you to make that leap. I made the leap to improve my professional and personal life. IOS development can open up doors for me to walk through that which were not present before. I do not know how long this journey will take but I will continue forward until I reach my goal.

I made the decision to start, now what?

When starting the journey to learn a new programming language or framework can be a bit overwhelming. As you know nowadays there are hundreds of tutorials, and resources right at the disposal of your fingertips. Which one should you use? I believe that depends on the type of learner that you are.

Are you a hands on learner or would you prefer to read a bunch of books on the subject. Should you go to a bootcamp? Should you buy an online course? Should you just watch free videos? Take the time to review your options and make the choice that best fits your needs. Invest in yourself, invest in your knowledge.

Let the journey begin

This new journey I know will not be a straight line. There will be highs, lows, tears and sleepless nights. Trust yourself and trust the process the goal will not be reached in a day. To help give me a sort of structure in this journey I chose to join the Devslopes’ Academy for iOS development .

I had the program on my radar for a while as I contemplated making the leap into IOS development. I still have a bitter taste from the false promises that were made when I went to a bootcamp who shall not be named, that is a topic for another article. I scheduled a call to discuss the program and clear up some questions and doubts that I had. Needless to say my doubts and fears went away and I invested in myself so I can start.

I am about four weeks in and I can say I am enjoying every minute of it. I am a hands on learner so I am glad that I am able to have multiple ways to practice the skills that I am learning. It varies from small little challenges to projects that I have to create from scratch! That is right from scratch, zero, nada! That dare I say is the best part and the most challenging. When learning through videos or tutorial sometimes feel like you retained or learned more than you actually did. A lot of tutorials give you the starter code or solution code and that is used sometimes as a crutch instead of a resource. Just rip the band-aid, let it go and enjoy the ride.

It is time

Start your new journey today! Will it be hard? Possibly. Does it take time? Yes. Does it take commitment and sacrifice? Yes. Will it be worth it? Absolutely. We go through life giving others many chance, it is time to give yourself that chance. In the end I think you will be happy you invested in yourself. Remember to get to the finish line you begin at the start line. Take the leap! Happy coding!
